2025 Trends Show Short-Form Video Marketing Is Evolving

Are we hitting a wall with short-form videos?

I’m noticing growing discussions about short-form video fatigue, though it hasn’t hit the mainstream feeds yet. Some recent anecdotes from the communities I follow: a video marketer reported Q1 2025 is about to close with a 40% QoQ decline in TikTok Reel engagement rates; another case showed a 25% drop in Instagram Reel view rates over just two weeks, linked to audience overload; and a third case revealed completion rates for 15-second clips falling from 66% (Q4 2024) to 58% YtD.

Industry stats show short-form video consumption dominates: 82% of internet traffic by 2025, per Firework’s projections; but there are hints attention spans are fraying. SundaySky 2025 Video Trends reports that 73% of consumers now prefer videos under two minutes, but skip more often when there’s too much short-form content on their feeds.

We may have reached oversaturation. Too many brands churn out Reels, Shorts, and TikToks that look the same. Marketers flock to short-form, with 44% naming it a top priority (up from 26% in 2022). As a result, feeds are flooded with similar clips. And this is making audiences pickier.

The takeaway? Data suggests a pivot: lean into lower frequency, higher quality production. Marketers seeing success are capping output and doubling down on storytelling – think shoppable videos (which can lift CVR by up to 60%) or hyper-personalized clips.
